International East Turkistan National Unity Conference held in Istanbul

The 7th International East Turkistan National Unity Conference and the 16th World East Turkistan Brotherhood Gathering Were Held in Istanbul.

The 7th International East Turkistan National Unity Conference and the 16th World East Turkistan Brotherhood Gathering, hosted by the International Union of East Turkestan NGOs, were Held in Istanbul from October 4–7, 2024.

Hundreds of Uyghur diaspora leaders, politicians, parliamentarians, intellectuals, academics, representatives of various non-governmental organizations, and journalists from more than 30 countries, including Turkey, attended the event.

At the National Unity Council, the current situation of the East Turkistan cause and the strategies for the East Turkistan struggle were comprehensively discussed.

During the event’s opening ceremony, Mr. Hidayetullah Oguzhan, President of the International Union of East Turkistan NGOs, delivered a speech titled “Global Crisis and East Turkistan’s Independence.” Afterward, distinguished participants delivered greeting speeches individually.

Following the opening ceremony and greetings, issues related to East Turkistan and China’s genocide policies were discussed in several panels organized under different headings over two days.

The Impact of Genocide on the Uyghurs: Characteristics, Consequences, and Impacts

The panel discussion titled “The Impact of Genocide on the Uyghurs: Characteristics, Consequences, and Impacts” was moderated by Fatma Er. In the panel, Nur Muhammed Turkistani, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alimcan Buğda, and Dr. Adilcan Eruygur discussed the national social and cultural impact of the ongoing genocide in East Turkistan.

The Threat of Expansionist China in Asia

In the panel titled “The Threat of Expansionist China in Asia” moderated by Abdulahad Udun, Prof. Dr. Mahesh Ranjan Debata, Prof. Dr. Yasar Sari, Dr. Sadia Rahman, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Omer Kul, and Prof. Dr. Seiji Nishihara made presentations on China’s growing influence and threats in Asia, energy policies, the Belt and Road Initiative, regional balances, and increasing security challenges under Xi Jinping’s rule.

China’s Rising Power and the Global Implications of the Uyghur Genocide

In the panel on “China’s Rising Power and Global Reflections of the Uyghur Genocide,” moderated by Abdureşid Eminhaci, Dr. Adrian Zenz, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erkin Ekrem, Adam Turan, and Muhammed Demirovic gave comprehensive presentations.

In the panel, the global effects of the genocide in East Turkistan over the last 10 years, the reactions of the international community, the studies carried out in the international arena in this context, civil diplomacy initiatives and their results, the importance of scientific research on the region, the difficulties encountered in reporting studies, and solutions to these challenges were discussed.

China’s Growing Influence in the Arab-Islamic World and the East Turkistan Issue

The panel titled “China’s Growing Influence in the Arab-Islamic World and the East Turkistan Issue” was moderated by Muhammad Emin Uygur, with comprehensive presentations by Dr. Essam Abdel Shafi, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Essam Laorussi, Prof. Dr. Masut Sabri, Prof. Dr. Essam Faour Malkawi, Mustafa Ashour, and Khaled Al Shareef.

In this panel, issues such as China’s growing influence in the Arab-Islamic world and the place of the East Turkistan issue in international relations, global cooperation, and its effects on the current situation in East Turkistan were examined in detail, and questions were answered.

Stopping the Genocide and Ending the Occupation

The panel titled “Stopping the Genocide and Ending the Occupation” was moderated by Abdusselam Alim, with presentations by Prof. Dr. Afandi Saleh, Sujeet Kumar, Dr. Kadir Temiz, Mohd Khairul Anwar Ismail, and Prof. Dr. Abdullah al-Ashal.

In this panel, the systematic genocide policies of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime in East Turkistan, the consequences of the occupation, the work that can be done in the diaspora to end the occupation, and the development of new strategies were discussed.

Main Principles of East Turkistan Independence

The panel on “The Main Principles of East Turkistan Independence” was discussed with contributions from Av. Nurmuhammed Turkistani, Siracettin Azizi, Abdussala Alim, and Assoc. Prof. Ataullah Şahyar.

The participants concluded by discussing topics such as “Civil Diplomacy – New Opportunities and Initiatives,” “East Turkistan Diaspora – Identity Crisis and Difficulties in Transferring Cultural Identity,” “The Role of Media in the East Turkistan Cause,” “International East Turkistan Initiatives,” “Problems of the New Generation in Transferring Cultural Identity,” “New Generation in the East Turkistan Cause – Development and Solidarity,” and “East Turkistan Human Rights Research,” through group workshops.
