On May 16, 2025, an event was planned at Istanbul University for orphaned children from East Turkistan.
It had been approved in advance and all the necessary permissions were officially granted.
But just one day before the event—on May 15—the university administration suddenly canceled it.
Do you know what the reason was?
“A diplomatic crisis may occur with the Chinese Consulate.”
Yes, because China might be “offended,” a humanitarian event involving orphaned Uyghur children in Turkey was canceled.
Twenty Uyghur children who had been brought to attend were left heartbroken.
And this is not the first time…
For a panel scheduled on April 29, the phrase “East Turkistan” was removed.
One Uyghur speaker was even banned from entering the campus.
Again, the same excuse: “We must avoid a crisis with China.”
I want to ask:
China is free to oppress the Uyghur people in East Turkistan—
To assimilate them, to ban their language and religion, to erase their identity…
But are the victims of this oppression forbidden from speaking in Turkey?
China is free to bring fake base station spy technology into Turkey…
To collect personal information about Uyghur Turks…
To copy SIM cards and empty bank accounts of Turkish citizens—and no one says a word.
But when it comes to Uyghur children smiling, suddenly that becomes “a problem” for China?
Is this justice? Is this independence? Is this an honorable stance?
Turkey is a democratic state governed by the rule of law.
But if events at our universities are being canceled under pressure from the Chinese Consulate,
Doesn’t that cast a shadow over our sovereignty and legal system?
Would the Turkish nation ever accept this affront to its dignity?
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“He who remains silent in the face of injustice is a mute devil.”
So why are so many consciences deaf today in the face of such injustice?
Why is no one listening?
If the Chinese Consulate already has this much influence over Turkey’s academic institutions today…
What will happen tomorrow?
We will not be silenced by those who try to suppress our voice.
For East Turkistan, for justice, for humanity—
We will keep speaking.
And remember:
Every truth that someone tries to silence… echoes even louder.
