Turkish MP asked the Foreign Minister: “Why didn’t you visit the Uyghur concentration camps when you went to Urumqi?”
Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Kocaeli MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu spoke about Uyghurs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Plan and Budget Commission on November 22, 2024. Gergerlioğlu asked Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan why he did not visit the Uyghur concentration camps when he went to Urumqi.
Reminding Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu’s tweet dated July 31, 2019, “We went to China, we are sending an observation delegation to Xinjiang,” Gergerlioğlu said, “Five years have passed. Supposedly, the Turkish state was sending a delegation to the concentration camps for Uyghur Turks in China. Go back and ask your predecessor. Why didn’t you send a delegation? What happened, what ended? You traveled to China in recent months. You posed for media photos there, you embraced Uyghur children, but you did not visit the concentration camps, Mr. Minister, but your predecessor had promised to do so, but this was not possible either,” He used these expressions.
Gergerlioğlu also asked the Minister, “Why haven’t you fulfilled the promises made by your Ministry regarding Uyghur Turks for five years, when will you fulfill them?“
