Uyghur Delegation Visits Turkey’s Grand National Assembly

The Uyghur delegation met with MPs from various parties in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, presenting detailed reports on China’s genocidal policies and urging them to bring the Uyghur issue to the agenda in parliament.

On November 27, 2024, a delegation from the East Turkistan Human Rights Watch Association (ETHR) visited the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to raise awareness about the situation faced by Uyghurs. Led by ETHR Secretary General Abdulehed Udun, the delegation met individually with parliamentarians from various political parties to present their reports on China’s genocidal policies and human rights violations.

The delegation separately met with AK Party MP Derya Yanık, IYI Party Group Chairman Buğra Kavuncu, Saadet and Future Party Group Chairman Selçuk Özdağ, Saadet Party MP Chairman Mustafa Kaya, and Deva Party MP Mustafa Yeneroğlu.

During these meetings, they shared insights about the situation in East Turkistan and presented reports detailing the challenges faced by Uyghurs.

Mustafa Yeneroğlu evaluated ETHR’s newly published ‘2024 Report on Religious Repression in East Turkestan’ as follows:

“The report provides a comprehensive examination of the severe human rights violations, systemic ethnic and religious discrimination, and deliberate marginalization of Uyghur Turks and other Muslim minorities by the Chinese government in East Turkestan, a region historically renowned for its rich cultural and religious diversity. In recent years especially, the report details the Chinese state’s oppression of Muslims under the pretext of ‘fighting extremism and terrorism’, meticulously documenting through countless examples the systematic destruction of religious identities and cultural heritage. This includes the widespread demolition of mosques, the categorical prohibition of religious education, and the extensive confiscation of religious texts, with particular emphasis on the seizure of the Holy Quran.”

“I hope that such valuable works published in different languages will raise the awareness of the international community against the persecution and encourage a stronger stance against the gross human rights violations in the region,” Yeneroğlu added.
