WUC Congratulates Sanae Takaichi on Becoming Japan’s Prime Minister

The World Uyghur Congress congratulates Sanae Takaichi on becoming Japan’s 104th Prime Minister, praising her support for Uyghur rights and welcoming continued cooperation to advance human rights.

The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) on 21 October 2025, has extended its congratulations to Ms. Sanae Takaichi, Member of the Japanese House of Representatives and President of the Liberal Democratic Party, on her election as Japan’s 104th Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Takaichi is recognized for her longstanding commitment to human rights and democratic values. In her role as Vice-Chair of the Japanese Uyghur Parliamentary Group, she has consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of the Uyghur issue. She has actively participated in meetings advocating for Uyghur rights and freedoms and has met with representatives of Uyghur organizations, including former WUC President Dolkun Isa.

The WUC expressed its appreciation for Japan’s principled support of the Uyghur cause and its ongoing efforts to hold the Chinese government accountable for its policies against Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples.

The organization also welcomed the appointment of Mr. Keiji Furuya, a long-time advocate for Uyghur human rights and Chair of the Japanese Parliamentary Group for Uyghurs, as the Election Strategy Committee Chair within the new Liberal Democratic Party leadership. Mr. Furuya previously played a key role in hosting the 2022 International Uyghur Forum in Tokyo, organized by the WUC.

WUC President Turgunjan Alawdun expressed hope that under Prime Minister Takaichi’s leadership, Japan will continue to uphold its moral leadership in promoting human rights and freedom, while further strengthening its support for the Uyghur people.

The WUC looks forward to continued cooperation between the Japanese government, the Japanese public, and the global Uyghur community in advancing justice and universal human rights.
