Panel on “East Turkistan Republics, Founding Cadres and the Great Migration” Marks 75th Anniversary

A panel titled “East Turkistan Republics, Founding Staff and the Great Migration in the 75th Anniversary of the Occupation” was organized at Istanbul University.

The panel, which took place on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Istanbul University Institute of Turkic Studies, was organized in cooperation with the Institute of Turkic Studies, World Uyghur Congress Foundation, Isa Yusuf Alptekin Foundation, Kazakh Turks Education and Research Association and Turkish World Research Foundation.

The opening speeches were delivered by several distinguished leaders: Abdurreşit Abdulhamit, President of the World Uyghur Congress; Cahit Dak, President of Isa Yusuf Alptekin Foundation; Süleyman Öztoprak, President of KATAED; Saadet Pınar Yıldırım, General Director of the Turkish World Research Foundation; and Prof. Dr. Ayşe Zişan Furat, Director of the Institute of Turkic Studies.

The main panel, chaired by Prof. Dr. Mualla Uydu Yücel (Faculty Member of Istanbul University and President of Umay Mother Turkish World Women’s Union), included distinguished speakers:

  • Prof. Dr. Ömer Kul, Istanbul University Faculty Member
  • Abdulvahap Kara, MSGSU Faculty Member
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tekin Tuncer, Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University Faculty Member
  • Uzm. Harun Mesut Akgün

A highlight of the event was the moving testimony from Abdurrahman Çetin, a living witness of the Kazakh Migration, who shared his personal experiences. The panel concluded with the presentation of Çetin’s book “The Last Migration in My Life Journey” to the speakers, followed by a group photograph.
